ABOUT OUR PARTNERS

GREEN IOWA AMERICORPS: LAND AND WATER

Green Iowa AmeriCorps is a division of the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal program created by former President William J. Clinton in 1993. It is a network of national service programs that engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. AmeriCorps Land & Water Steward's primary mission is to revive Iowa's lost or disappearing ecosystems and improve water quality throughout the state. Focus is placed on outreach and education initiatives such as proper land management practices, ecosystem revitalization, storm-water management and pesticide reduction to help ensure progress towards the overall program goals.

Mahaska County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) supports the soil and water conservation districts. This is done through public education, acknowledgement, commissioner development, policy, on-the-ground conservation, conservation practice promotion, events, and more. Through the SWCD, AmeriCorps members have been assisting with water collection and testing for the Muchakinock Watershed Project. The SWCD and the City of Oskaloosa Public Works are working together in assisting the AmeriCorps members with guidance for the surveying.
